Clay Schaffner
Project Manager
Clay is the civil design manager at CSG. He dedicates his efforts to ensuring the civil design process results in an optimum balance between client satisfaction, community appeal, and a safe, efficient and technically sound land development project. Clay excels in implementing creative and highly effective solutions to a multitude of unique and complex scenarios associated with land development. Clay spends his time away from the office in the mountains with his wife and dogs.

Coleman Kline
Environmental Manager
Coleman is CSG’s environmental manager and oversees the wide environmental scope needed to successfully complete a project. He uses his experience throughout the intermountain west to make complicated environmental processes approachable for his clients and colleagues, often saving time and money in the process. Outside of CSG, Coleman is usually found on one of the countless trails or rivers in the west.

Dayton Law - PE
President
Dayton is responsive, engaged, and particularly enthusiastic about all of the projects that CSG has the opportunity to be a part of. He is respected by his clients for his excellent ability to communicate and problem solve. He excels in project management and is grateful for all opportunities to mentor the next generation of engineering professionals. Dayton can be found dirt biking, doing family activities, or involved in various home improvement projects when outside of CSG.

Jacob Hendrickson - PLA
Landscape Manager
Jacob is the lead Landscape Architect and Environmental Planner. He is passionate about functional, aesthetic outdoor design that enhances the world we experience. He advocates for smart growth and sustainable design that help fulfill as many needs as possible for the stakeholders. He also values building positive relationships with clients, as he provides them with quality service on time and within budget. Jacob enjoys travel and values learning from solutions other cultures have found to various design needs. He is also an accomplished musician and loves art and spending time with his wife and 5 children.

Jake Black
Project Manager
Jake is a project manager who applies his wide variety of skills to ensure the client’s needs are met and their projects are successful. He thrives when leading a team with a challenging project and a tight timeline. Jake’s love for engineering translates into creative, efficient, and quality designs. He is a problem solver with high attention to detail. In his spare time, Jake can usually be found in the sand, whether it be on a beach in the Caribbean or in the bunker of the local golf course.

John Powell
Geotechnical Manager
John oversees the geotechnical department, and is responsive and engaged with clients to meet their geotechnical needs. He provides safe and reasonable geotechnical recommendations for many types of projects. In his spare time, you can find John spending time outdoors and with family.

Michael Taylor - PE
Vice President
Michael is motivated by wanting to contribute to quality land development and improve the quality of life of the communities of the Mountain West. He also takes great satisfaction in providing the best level of care possible to CSG’s clients. As the Vice President of Civil, he manages the company’s civil design group and is responsible for ensuring that designs are optimized to project constraints and client objectives. He ensures construction plans are accurate and complete. Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and six children either on their farm or in Utah’s mountains.

Weston Southwick
Vice President
Weston is vice president of the project managers; he oversees, manages, and mentors the company’s team of project managers. He manages various projects throughout the western United States. He is a valued team member due to his knowledge of civil design and his ability to incorporate functionality and feasibility into the projects he manages. Weston is extremely attentive to details and is able to understand and incorporate a client’s vision. He enjoys spending time with his family doing anything outdoors and supporting and watching his kids excel in their various sporting activities.

Curtis Bown - PLS
Survey Manager
Curtis enjoys working with communities and clients to develop quality and technically sound projects. Working in the Surveying department has allowed him to contribute to projects across all the fields of service offered at CSG. He takes a great deal of pride in his work and appreciates working with a team committed to exceptional service to our diverse clientele. He has a passion for Land Surveying and enjoys opportunities to get others involved in the profession. Curtis enjoys spending time with his family doing activities and being outdoors.

David M. Robison, P.G
Engineering Geologist
Mr. David Robison joined Civil Solutions Group in 2025 after over 17-years working in dam and levee safety for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he analyzed geologic hazards, including seismic damages, landslides, karst sinkholes, seepage, and erosion, while leading, reviewing, and facilitating risk-assessments and inspections. Work assignments allowed him to explore the geology of dam foundations across the nation from Alaska to Florida, and 9-months overseas at Mosul Dam in Iraq. David spent 6-months working with Corps leadership in Washington D.C., and 6-months working with the Corps research team to develop the use of LiDAR technology in levee inspections, where he obtained his remote pilot license to fly drones.
David earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Geology from Brigham Young University, and his Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a registered professional geologist in the states of Illinois and Utah.
David and his wife reside in Providence, Utah with their children. He has enjoyed coaching cross-country and track & field, playing basketball and slow-pitch softball, cycling and mountain biking, and playing saxophone in community bands.
